Jutras Lab on physics and marine biogeochemistry

About

I am a researcher in oceanography, currently a postdoc at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where I work in the HI Cycles Group with Pr. Seth Bushinsky. I am part of the SOCCOM and Québec-Océan research networks. Starting in June 2025, I will be a professor at the ISMER.

I hold a Ph.D. in Earth and Plantary Sciences from McGill University, completed under the supervision of Alfonso Mucci and Carolina Dufour, a Master’s degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from the same university, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Université de Montréal.

Research

In my research, I am interested in the influence of physical processes on ocean biogeochemistry. Deoxygenation, acidification, and ocean carbon uptake are influenced not only by biological processes but also by physics. Using ocean data and models, I try to understand what controls marine biogeochemical cycles and the changes they undergo.

Here are some of the specific questions I focus on:

  • The different processes that determine the biogeochemical evolution of waters
  • Deoxygenation in the St Lawrence Gulf and Lower Estuary
  • Impact of climate change on the biogeochemistry of the St Lawrence
  • The climatic variability of the Northwest Atlantic and its influence on biogeochemistry
  • The role of submesoscale variability on marine biogeochemistry
